The HyperLibrary grew out of an application I created for my own ensemble to use as a way for our music librarians to easily track, edit, and catalog our music library.

But then I thought: Wouldn't it be useful if a BUNCH of community groups had their libraries online in the same way? Not only would every ensemble get a decent, feature-filled application to track their OWN libraries, but what if other groups could browse their libraries, too? There could be lending programs, you'd always be able to find missing parts, and no doubt a number of other uses would come to light.

Enter HyperLibrary. (http://hyperlibrary.org) Here's what it does:

Manage your own organization's music library

  • View, Edit, or Delete records: Shows a complete list of all currently cataloged records. Items may be edited or deleted.
  • Add new items: Enter new items into the catalog. Library numbers are automatically generated. Includes a space for program notes and internal notes.
  • Search the library: Use keywords and category constraints to search your HyperLibrary stacks.
  • Build concert programs: (currently under construction) Using your existing library, build and save your concert programs; this allows you to keep a historical record of your concerts and last-played dates for your library entries.
  • Download your HyperLibrary: Have the full library downloaded to your local computer in CSV (comma-delimited) format, suitable for loading into MS Excel or another spreadsheet application.
  • Upload your existing data into HyperLibrary: If you already have your library data in an Excel spreadsheet, you may upload it here, and have it placed in your HyperLibrary collection.
  • HyperLibrary reports: Generate printable reports on your HyperLibrary data
Plus, view other HyperLibrary member's libraries, and contact them securely:
  • HyperBrowse: Browse collections of other HyperLibrary member organizations.
  • HyperSearch: Search the entire HyperLibrary database, including all member organization's collections.
  • HyperList: View all member organizations, with the ability to contact their HyperLibrary administrators.
And, you can decide who has access to your HyperLibrary account:
  • Your organization: View/Edit organization information--addresses, email, etc.
  • Your users: View/Edit your organization's HyperLibrary users, user information, and permissions.
There are web-based applications out there on the internet that do these tasks, but they can be a bit pricey. HyperLibrary is free to all community bands, orchestras, and other ensembles. Just sign up and use it; my philosophy is that we're all in this enterprise of making music together, and therefore we should work together to assist one another whenever possible.

Interested?

Point your browser at http://hyperlibrary.org, sign up, and get started. Online help will be available soon, and email support is available from the application.

Feedback welcome!
